In 2005, under the joint initiative of Dr. Ching-Tsang Hou and former President Jei-Fu Shaw of National Chung Hsing University, and with the assistance of Vice President Shyi-Dong Yeh a total of four sessions of the International Symposium on Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology and the Taiwan Annual Meeting were successfully held at National Chung Hsing University.
In 2006, academic communities in Taiwan collaborated with scholars from the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, and Europe to establish the International Society of Biocatalysis and Biotechnology (ISBB). The society was renamed the International Society of Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (ISBAB) in the following year. Its headquarters was established at National Chung Hsing University, and international symposia were held in Taiwan for five consecutive years, significantly enhancing Taiwan’s international visibility in this field.
Starting from the 6th symposium, the event has been hosted on a rotational basis by Korea, Japan, and North America. The 9th and 18th symposia were held in Slovakia, while the 13th, 16th, and 17th symposia were again hosted at National Chung Hsing University. The 19th symposium was held in Canada.
In 2025, under the leadership of President Chuan-Mu Chen and Secretary-General Ming-Cheng Wu of the International Society of Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology, and in collaboration with the Biotechnology Center of National Chung Hsing University, the Taiwan Annual Meeting of ISBAB will be held. Scholars and graduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.) from various fields are cordially invited to participate.
