Conference Overview
In 2026, marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the International Society of Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (ISBAB), Taiwan is honored to host the 20th International Symposium on Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (20th ISBAB) once again.
This prestigious event will bring together a distinguished group of 34 leading international scholars from eleven countries, including the United States, Canada, Croatia, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan, along with 20 renowned domestic experts. Together, they will share cutting-edge research findings, foster interdisciplinary academic exchange, and explore the latest trends and applications in biocatalysis and agricultural biotechnology.
The invited speakers represent a diverse range of research areas, highlighting the broad applications of biocatalysis and agricultural biotechnology. The symposium will cover the following key themes:
- Plant Biotechnology and Agricultural Biotechnology
Speakers in this field specialize in plant breeding, genetic research, plant lipids, and metabolic engineering. Discussions will focus on strategies to enhance crop yield and disease resistance, including clubroot disease management in canola, genetic improvement of oil palm, and advances in plant lipid metabolic engineering to increase oil content in crops.
- Food Science and Biocatalysis
This area will emphasize the development of novel food products and technologies, including enzymatic synthesis of functional lipids, nutritional applications of marine-derived lipid-soluble compounds, microbial fermentation for fatty acid production, and the development of bio-based materials for food packaging.
- Microbiology and Animal Biotechnology
Topics will include research on honeybee health and microbiomes, as well as the use of microorganisms for biodegradation and lipid production.
This strong lineup of speakers ensures comprehensive coverage from fundamental research to industrial applications, fostering in-depth interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
Hosting this international symposium will significantly enhance the global visibility of Taiwan’s academic community in the fields of biocatalysis and agricultural biotechnology, while also promoting the development of related industries. By integrating expertise from diverse backgrounds and encouraging multi-faceted perspectives, the conference aims to stimulate new ideas and collaborative opportunities.
Furthermore, this event will broaden the research horizons of domestic scholars, showcase Taiwan’s academic strengths and research achievements on the international stage, and strengthen the global presence and impact of Taiwan in these key scientific domains.
